SEVEN THINGS I'VE LOVED THIS MONTH: JUNE 2024

seven things I've loved this month June 2024

  1. PEONIES IN MY WORK STUDIO. They may have cost double what I would normally pay for a bunch of flowers but my goodness they were worth it! Pretty and feminine, I think they're offically now one of my favourite flowers. Did you know that peonies symbolise prosperity, good luck and love? They make an ideal floral gift for anyone starting a new chapter or getting married. I love having fresh flowers around in my daily life - whether they're for our family dining table or my work space - it's always a non negotiable for me. What's one of yours? (Tell me in the comment section - I'd love to hear!)

  2. EMMA HARDIE'S BRILLIANCE FACIAL OIL. I use this at night as the last step of my nightly skincare routine and it's made such a difference to my perimenopausal skin, which can often be dry and sensitive. I got it as part of this skincare set via Amazon (I always think it's a good idea to try out small sizes of beauty products before you invest) but you can also buy it here.

  3. RICH HOUSE, POOR HOUSE series on Netflix. My eleven year old daughter and I have started watching this (we like to go through a TV series together) and even though I always have reservations about these kind of programmes due to being potentially exploitative, I have to say I've been really pleasantly surprised. The series poses the question, 'can money buy you happiness?' and each episode sees two families from opposite ends of the financial spectrum and class divide swap homes, status and budgets for a week. It's given me plenty of opportunity to talk about money and have discussions about how differently people live with my daughter (which has been brilliant) and the kindness and respect shown between the different families has been really heartwarming.

  4. LEOPARD PRINT TROUSERS. I bought myself this pair from Zara late last month and have already worn them at least a handful of times. In my first year at University I was known for my leopard print trousers and yet weirdly haven't owned a pair for over 20 years! You've probably spotted that they are a huge trend this season and cropping up everywhere and on everyone, so if you fancy a pair for yourself, you definitely won't struggle to find them on the High Street (try Vinted or eBay first for cheaper preloved pairs!) I don't usually opt in for such a popular trend personally but I couldn't resist. Plus they're timeless and (as leopard is a neutral!) they go with absolutely everything.

  5. SKIPPING! This month I've been getting reaquainted with a much loved childhood past time and skipping daily. I aim for a minium of 100 skips a day but usually find that I end up going much further than that, once I get cracking! Yesterday I did over 500 skips, some days I manage over 1000. It's getting easier day by day and my stamina and fitness levels are building up fast! I wholeheartedly recommend it if you want to improve you fitness levels, tone up a little or are looking for a fast, all body workout. It's brilliant, quick and amazingly effective. I'm currently using this cheap and cheerful rope but will probably switch to a weighted rope soon, now I'm skipping with ease.

  6. STARTING FROM SCRATCH. If you follow me on social media, you'll know that this month has been a busy one for me as I've had to pretty much start again from scratch with my professional website and create this new blog space too. It's been daunting at times and I've still got a to-do list as long as my arm to make my way through (!), but I feel like I've made good progress and my writing mojo is well and truly back. There really is a lot to be said for a 'clean slate'. Scary at times yes but exhilerating too! If you're thinking of making a fresh start in any way, I can tell you that the hardest bit is often just making the jump. After that? Well I always find it gets easier and a hell of a lot more interesting! Thanks to everyone who's been supportive and kind to me over this unexpected (!) transition work period. I appreciate it more than you know.

  7. TALKING ABOUT PERSONAL WRITING On Wednesday evening I held a special personal writing session at my local library in Barnsley and talked about how writing a blog and then a non-fiction book, literally changed my life. It was a wonderful evening and I loved talking to people and answering questions about a form of writing I'm incredibly passionate about. Thanks to those who attended! I'll be hosting another session for the library in September so keep your eyes peeled for news on that soon.
